According to JAMB new admission policy, Goodnews Everybody with JAMB Score 180 will get admission this year to study their course of choice in their institution of choice. What I mean is that if your JAMB score is up to 180 you will get admission direct without post utme.
The government and stakeholders in education sector also pegged 180 as benchmark for 2016 admission into universities, polytechnics and colleges of education to improve quality of education in Nigeria.
These decisions were reached at the 2016 Combined Policy Meeting on Admissions to Universities, Polytechnics and other higher institutions in Nigeria.
The Minister of Education , Malam Adamu Adamu, while declaring open the meeting, said since the federal government and stakeholders had confidence in the examinations conducted by the Joint Admissions and Matriulation Board, JAMB, there was no need for other examinations to be conducted by universities after JAMB exams.
He said: “As far as I am concerned, the nation has confidence in what JAMB is doing, the universities should not be holding another examinations and if the universities have any complain against JAMB, let them bring it and then we address it. ”
But if JAMB is qualified enough to conduct tests and they have conducted test, then there will be no need to conduct another test for students to gain admission.
Our Take in this…
Many people may see this piece as a good news but, in it’s real sense; it is actually a bad news. How could FG peg cut-off mark at 180 not even 200 marks? How many candidates do they think our Universities can accommodate with 180 marks? With 200 marks bother line, Unilag can still not accommodate all intending candidates and so with other Universities. If you have hundreds of students that score 180 marks and above for limited place, do you force them to admit students they can’t cater for? Whether we like it or not, the post UTME is inevitable more so, the once ‘almighty’ JAMB has become a JAMBoree, mar with all sort of irregularities and malpractices. In fact, with this announcement by FG, it will now take a worse dimension. Many students will be admitted for courses they never dreamt of.
