The fact-finding committee set up to resolve the crises that have torn apart the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities, University of Lagos, has submitted its report, investigations by our correspondent have revealed.

Chief among the findings of the seven-man committee was that financial irregularities were holding down the association. The committee, which held its inaugural meeting last November 25, submitted its findings on January 28, 2016.

In the 24-page report exclusively obtained by our correspondent, the committee noted that there was the need to audit the finance – income and expenditure – of the association.

It identified N5m discrepancy in the association land account; N10.7m allegedly spent on SSANU land, and the over N1.5m allegedly spent on the association’s 2015 get- together party as some of the areas demanding proper auditing.

The committee, which refrained from making any personalised recommendation, said its objective was to encourage the spirit of reconciliation among the association members.

The Mr. Afisu Sanya-led committee met 13 times to deliberate on the various petitions laid before it.

Other members of the committee are Messrs O. Adebayo, J. Shodeinde, Mrs. Muyiwa Oni, and B. Oseni, who served as the secretary. Others are A. Ajirotutu, an engineer, and Mr. B. Udoh.

Apart from finance, the committee recommended that every leadership of the association in the university must be a contributor to the Senior Staff Contributory Welfare Scheme.

It particularly noted that the occupier of the position of the chairman must be a permanent member of the board of the scheme.

The committee also urged the SSANU-UNILAG Bye-Law Review Committee headed by Comrade Olusegun Odusanwo to submit the report without further delay to the association’s congress for consideration.

It added, “All the future/pending or arbitrarily wound-up SSAN-UNILAG set up committees should be given express and/or attainable terms of reference with appropriate reports submitted for the consideration of the congress.

“There must be an invocation of the relevant penalty clauses (if already provided for in the bye-law) against all infringement of the SSANU constitutional requirements.

“In any case, where penalty clauses seemed not to be in place, there ought to be adequate provisions in the SSANU-UNILAG bye-law to be ratified by the congress.”

Among former SSANU leaders and individuals who testified before the committee are Mr. Joseph Adefolalu, Olusegun Odusanwo, O. Mosadomi, B. Anosike, and A. Yinusa.

Others are S. Ahmad, R. Yusuf, O. Okeowo, Mr. Omolabi Koleowo, O. Ogunkoya, John Ogami and A Adekola.

Meanwhile, attempts to get the reaction of the Chairman of the association, Mr. Adetomiwa Adekola, on the report failed, as calls to his number did not go through.

As of 8pm on Monday, he had yet to respond to a text message sent to his telephone by our correspondent. Products and Services:
