CMD Begs Striking Nurses to Resume Work

Chief Medical Director of the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital (UCTH), Dr Thomas Agan, has called on nurses, midwives and other staff who have been on strike to return to work. The nurses and midwives embarked on strike over unpaid salaries.

In a statement, Dr Agan appealed to the branch leadership of National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives (NANUM) to suspend the on-going strike in the interest of hapless patients.
The union is also demanding immediate payment of training and uniform allowances owed them for three years running.
Dr Agan said their demands were legitimate, but that the hospital had  promised to pay off all the demands soon.
